Overview

Taiwan requires virtual-asset service providers to register with the Financial Supervisory Commission under Article 6 of the AML Control Act, effective 30 November 2024, bringing them into AML supervision. The Virtual Asset Service Act passed the Legislative Yuan on 30 June 2026 and will move Taiwan to a comprehensive licensing regime once the cabinet sets its effective date.

Regulatory framework

VASP registration under the AML Control Act is mandatory and enforced, but conduct-of-business and prudential rules await the Virtual Asset Service Act's entry into force, expected to phase in from late 2026.

Licensing & authorisation

Registration (not full licensing) with the FSC; the Virtual Asset Service Act will introduce a comprehensive licence once effective.

AML & Travel Rule

Travel Rule duties apply under the AML framework; Article 7's implementation was deferred and phases from October 2026.
