Overview

South Africa declared crypto assets a financial product in 2022 and began licensing crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) as financial-services providers under the FAIS Act from 2023, supervised by the FSCA, with the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) applying AML rules. South Africa exited the FATF grey list in 2025.
