Overview

Nigeria's Securities and Exchange Commission issued rules on digital assets and launched an Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme (ARIP) to onboard exchanges, while the Central Bank of Nigeria lifted its earlier banking restriction and issued guidelines for banks servicing licensed VASPs. Nigeria exited the FATF grey list in 2025.

Regulatory framework

The SEC registers digital-asset exchanges and offerings; the CBN guidelines govern banking relationships with VASPs.

Licensing & authorisation

Exchanges seek SEC registration (via ARIP); banks follow CBN VASP guidelines.
