Switzerland
Overview
Switzerland's Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Act amended existing financial-market laws to accommodate tokenised assets and DLT trading facilities, rather than creating a standalone crypto statute. FINMA supervises under a technology-neutral, principle-based approach.
Regulatory framework
The DLT Act introduced DLT securities and a DLT trading-facility licence; token classification follows FINMA's payment/utility/asset framework.
Licensing & authorisation
Depending on activity, firms need banking, securities-firm, fund or DLT trading-facility licences from FINMA.
AML & Travel Rule
FINMA applies AML law to VASPs, including a strict Travel Rule for transfers to external wallets.
